The one thing about the above Shubh Mangal Saavdhan poster that intrigues me most has nothing to do with the people involved in the poster Sure, there is a bored Bhumi Pednekar with Ayushmann Khurrana napping on her lap and the Taj Mahal behind them. Perhaps indicating about how Taj, the supposed symbol of love, is now becoming cliched by the day. Or for that matter, that cuddly little bear that is there in the poster for no damn reason apart from adding to the cuteness to the whole setup. Perhaps that bear might be a symbol of teddy bear toys people gift their loved ones. Just making some conjectures here. But we got the idea – the makers of Shubh Mangal Saavdhan wants to show that the love story of theirs is quite different from others that we have seen in Bollywood.
But what made me amused the most was the tagline in the poster – Stand Up For Love. While the line sounds very romantic on the face of it, if you know the plot of the movie or have seen the original Tamil flick, you will realise that there is a funnier (or perhaps not) vibe to the whole tagline. One moment of the Tamil movie dealt with the bride and groom realising the truth just days before their marriage that the latter suffers from erectile dysfunction. Now you got the idea when the makers proclaim – ‘Stand Up For Love’. Is that why Bhumi is looking so bored?
Shubh Mangal Saavdhan is the official remake of the Tamil movie, Kalyana Samayal Sadham (a fine romantic comedy, that I recommend you to watch). The remake will be directed by RS Prasanna, who also helmed the original, and is co-produced by Aanand L Rai. The movie deals with how a couple brought together by an arranged marriage alliance, find their road to matrimony filled with enough challenges. After her debut in the lovely Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Bhumi Pednekar is pairing up with her first hero, Ayushmann Khurrana again. The movie is scheduled to release on September 1.
