Marathi film Sairat brought a National Film Award for the actress Rinku Rajguru and international recognition for director Nagraj Manjule. The movie was screened at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival. It transcended barriers of language and was watched by many who did not understand Marathi, with the help of subtitles. The film had such an impact that several remakes in other languages were effectively announced; one of them being a production venture by Karan Johar. But Nagraj doesn’t seem too excited about this new adaptation of his film. While talking to Mumbai Mirror, the ace director said, “I have no expectations from the film, only best wishes for the team,”. This Hindi remake of Sairat has been rumoured to star Ishaan Khatter and debutante Jhanvi Kapoor. The movie is yet to go on floors, despite being in the pre-production stage for more than enough time. The developmental hell for the movie seems to have no reason. Though, point to note is that Punjabi and Telugu remakes of Sairat failed to do as good as the original. “I wouldn’t know why but it would be interesting to conduct a research on why films that do well in one language cannot get the same results in others,” Nagraj told the daily.
Could the failure of the Telugu and Punjabi remakes be the reason why the project has been hold for Dharma Productions? Time will tell.
Jhanvi, daughter of Sridevi, is often spotted by the paparazzi attending dance classes. Certainly she is putting in a lot of hard work for her debut, whenever and with whichever movie that may be. Ishaan is gearing up for the release of his first film Beyond the Clouds, that has been directed by world renowned Majid Majidi.
